SPEESTER ON TRACK TO GO-KARTING SUCCESS
TOBY Dvorak has only been racing go-karts for two years but has been trackside since he was six months old.

“Dad’s been taking me (to the track) since I was a baby,” Toby said.

“I got my first kart when I was five and after practising really hard every weekend for a year or so, I was allowed to start racing.”

Toby, of Mornington, is now eight and has had a strong 2017 season in the Cadet 9 category, taking second place in Round 3 of the Monarto Australian Kart Championships in May, and is coming third in the national series overall.

“I like racing, it’s fun. I just try to remember what dad has told me and what we have done in practice,” Toby said.

Mum Stacey said the sport was a major commitment for the whole family.

“We travel all over Australia to compete against the best karters in the country. There’s also the practice sessions to attend, which can mean heading interstate two weekends in a row” she said.

“Rain, hail or shine, Toby is up at 5:30am every race morning to get to the track, and the weather conditions can go from 47C at Newcastle to -6C in another state.”

Toby hopes to earn a spot on an F1 team when he’s older. “That’s my dream,” Toby said.

Toby has been nominated as a Leader Local Sports Star.
