Congratulations from everyone involved in the sport of Karting in Victoria to Oscar Piastri from the Oakleigh Go-Kart Racing Club/Karting Victoria, now 2020 FIA Formula 3 champion!

Oscar is the latest driver after spending many years in karting racing around the tracks of Victoria as a cadet and junior to find success in higher categories of motorsport and we can’t wait to see how he goes in his next category of racing.

17 September 2020

Good Morning Everyone,

Following yesterday’s advice, the Victorian Government has published Restricted Activity Directions (Non- Melbourne) (No 5) overnight.

After assessing the various documents this morning, as a summary, it means the following for Clubs located in regional Victoria:

Social Karting Days

  • Can continue to operate under the COVIDSafe Supplementary Regulations.
  • Multiple Groups of 10 drivers permitted i.e. maximum number of Drivers on track at once is 10.
  • Only people residing in the non-restricted areas (e.g. regional Victoria) are able to be in attendance.
  • A Maximum of one mechanic per Driver attending.
  • Only the minimum number of Club Personnel and/or Officials required to conduct the Activity in attendance.
  • No use of the indoor facilities, other than change rooms and toilet facilities.
  • All other COVID requirements such as Social distancing, KA COVID Declaration etc. are required to be adhered to.

Club Competition

  • Can resume following the submission of COVIDSafe Supplementary Regulations to Karting Victoria.

In the simplest of terms, this basically means ONLY the people that are directly involved in participating (Drivers, Mechanics, Club Personnel and Officials) should be in attendance at the activities/events.

Expanded NSW/Victorian Border Region The NSW Government has this morning expanded the Victorian border region to incorporate a larger area.

This expansion of the border region now permits Victorian Licence holders in regions such as Shepparton, Wodonga, Echuca and Wangaratta with the appropriate permit to attend the NSW Kart Championship in Bega, NSW.

To check if you reside inside the border region please visit https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/border-zone-addresscheck

Further details on how to apply for a border permit can be found here https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-covid-19-nsw-border-entry-permit

Entries for the September 25-27 event will now close at Midnight on Monday September 21.

Best Regards and Stay Safe

6th August 2020

Good Evening All,

Karting Victoria recently released a statement that informed you that all activities at all Go Kart Tracks were no longer allowed to be run in Victoria as at 11:59pm on 5th August 2020.
This was based on the statement issued by Daniel Andrews on 2nd August in which he clearly stated that all community sport would have to stop.

Below is the extract upon which we relied.

And from 11:59pm on Wednesday, regional Victoria will return to Stage 3 “Stay at Home” restrictions. That means there’ll again only be four reasons to be out: shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Daily exercise. Work and study – if you can’t do it from home. Otherwise, you need to stay home. Businesses in regional Victoria will also return to Stage 3 restrictions.

That means restaurants and cafes can only offer delivery and takeaway. Beauty and personal services will need to close. Entertainment and cultural venues will need to close. Community sport will need to stop.

Subsequently the Public Health Commander, Dr. Finn Romanes, issued Restricted Activity Directions (Non-Melbourne) on 6th August 2020 that significantly diluted the previous statement from the Premier. These Restrictions now allow a physical recreational facility to operate under very strict conditions. These conditions are found a Clause 6 (3) of that document. Under any circumstances competition is not allowed, but exercise and practice is allowed.

Karting Australia will shortly be issuing a COVID-19 update detailing the conditions imposed by the State Government and by Karting Australia that clubs that are not under Stage 4 Restrictions need to observe in order to run practice sessions should they so desire. We recommend that all clubs read the Karting Australia COVID-19 update carefully and thoroughly with particular attention to the increased risk in the current circumstances that are addresssed in that document. It is imperative that this risk is understood prior to making a decision to run a practice session. Karting Victoria will not stand in the way of any club wishing to run a practice session at their club.

Good morning all.

Following the latest restrictions for Melbourne and regional Victoria, that require all community sports and recreational activities to stop, all August scheduled events have been cancelled. This applies to club day racing and organised practice days. Therefore, all permits relating to these events have been withdrawn. This ban on activities will be in effect until we are notified by the government that we can recommence.

We all need to play our part to help slow the spread of Coronavirus, and hope everyone is staying safe in these hard times.

Kind regards,
Russell White

31/7/2020

Good morning all.

Following a Karting Victoria executive meeting conducted last night (30/7/20), it was resolved to cancel all open race meetings for the remainder of 2020. We have not taken this decision lightly, but with the end of the current ongoing pandemic seemingly out of sight it was deemed the only responsible course of action. I am sure that no club would want to be suspected of being a source of the pandemic within their region, or to have it brought in from another area.

To be clear this determination affects all race meetings except Club competition (Club Days) and National (KA) events.

I would ask that all of us mask up, keep your distance and stay safe.

Kind regards,
Russell White

To All Clubs/Karters:

In line with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has announced that Greater Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire will return to Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions from 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 July 2020.

It is with extreme regret that Karting Victoria has no alternative but to withdraw all previously issued permits for clubs operating in the restricted postcodes identified in the announcements.
Until the restrictions are lifted in Greater Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire no permits can be issued to those affected clubs.

The clubs affected by the lockdown are Oakleigh Go Kart Racing club, Eastern Lions Kart Club and the Go Kart Club of Victoria.

Clubs that are outside the restricted postcodes ARE NOT TO ACCEPT any entries or practice nominations from anyone from the restricted postcodes.
